Teaching PHilosophy

Each student has unique goals, strengths, and learning preferences; and it is my mission to adapt my teaching style to fit the student rather than the student adapt to the teacher. Everyone, musicians and non-musicians alike, have talents and abilities that are special and distinct to them, but each of us have some capacity to make music. I encourage everyone to explore their musical potential even if they believe they do not possess any. Music provides a beauty that we can recognize in our own ways, and this insight supports other facets of our lives; relationships, education, attitude, and overall well being.

As an educator, I do not believe that students fit into molds unless they are put into one. Providing students the freedom to express themselves while learning is a priority, supported by a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, students of all ages an find their own voice in music and in life.

My long term mission with each student is to encourage habits and practices that will promote their musical growth and ability to learn, even without the help of an instructor. The methods we use to learn music and to play an instrument apply to any potential goal the student pursues later on, and it is through this mechanism that the benefit of music reaches its full potential.
